Here’s How We’re Striking A Better Deal For Geelong

Earlier this year, we set out our intention to rebuild the infrastructure that will make Geelong and the Great Ocean Road a better place to live, work and visit – now, we’re committing to the Implementation Plan to make it happen.

Victoria’s first City Deal will transform this iconic part of our state – attracting new investments, more visitors and new jobs for locals both in the construction of major infrastructure and well into the future.

The City Deal will be a game-changer for hard-working families in Geelong and the region.

The Geelong City Deal Implementation Plan sets out the timeline and scope for the hundreds of projects this plan will deliver in Geelong, the Great Ocean Road, Shipwreck Coast and the Otways.

The Andrews Labor Government will lead on  major parts of the project including:

  • The $174 million Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre
  • The $108 million Shipwreck Coast masterplan to revitalise the iconic Twelve Apostles region
  • The $38 million ‘Revitalising Central Geelong’ plan to upgrade the train station, build parks and open spaces and make the Geelong city centre a better place to live and visit
  • A campaign to help tourists drive better and more safely along the Great Ocean Road.

The Convention Centre will allow Geelong to attract major events from all over the world, and has the potential to create up to 600 jobs during construction

Last year, we declared the Convention Centre a strategic project, which means it will be required to use 90 per cent local content under the Labor Government’s Local Jobs First policy. Local content includes labour, building materials and fittings like concrete, glass and steel, as well as professional services like engineering and design.
